This and That

The Red Deer Pickleball Club was delighted to hear that the City of Red Deer has just approved $30,000 towards the Pickleball Canada National Championships being held in Red Deer, Alberta at their Motorworks Fields in the city’s east side from August 10-15, 2021.  Red Deer boasts one of the largest outdoor pickleball facilities in Western Canada.  The Motorworks Field Pickleball Court offers 20 courts and was opened on June 25, 2019.         The Countdown is on !

Pickleball has now been given a spot as a workout option with Apple watchOS7 update!  “No more using badminton as the workout choice”, was commented numerous times on by regular players that use their watch to track daily workouts. This is a big deal in that this garners more recognition to our great sport across the globe!   Interesting to note that players are realizing that they are burning up to 1,000 calories in a 1-2 hour playing period!

While riding my bike along the glorious roads of beautiful Gabriola Island, located in the Southern Gulf Islands,  I met up with Mat Jones who was out for a bike ride himself with a friend.  In conversation, I discovered that Mat was an avid pickleball enthusiast, playing regularly at his local court on Gabriola.  Mat then showed me an attachment he had custom made for his bicycle that allowed him to not only carry his paddle, but it was also engineered to carry a stool for sitting between games!    Mat is clearly riding to the courts in style!
