An inaugral meeting of the directors of the Pickleball Association of Ontario, P.A.O., was held Wednesday, March 9, 2011. At this meeting, interim officers were appointed. Wayne Roswell was elected as the acting President, David Werry, Treasurer and Roy Wilson, Secretary. A draft set of bylaws was approved. A formal annual meeting of the membership to appoint permanent directors and establish the final bylaws is planned for the Ontario Open Pickleball Tournament in Oshawa, August 13 and 14, 2011. Dave Hall, the webmaster, has been working on our official website at www.pickleballassociationofontario.org. Dave has been instrumental in designing our logo and our motto, "Have Fun, Keep Fit, Live Life." We invite all players to have a look at our site and bookmark it for future visits.
The directors want to make it very clear that P.A.O. is an affliate of PCA. We fully support PCA as the governing body of Pickleball in Canada and will work to carry out all initiatives of the central body. We have informed Bill Canning of our plans from the beginning and he has been in agreement and fully supportative.
Our organization is now seeking 200 members so that we can ask for Pickleball to be sanctioned by the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion. As a sanctioned sport, and I am sure this is unusual for any sport to have to go throught this process, we may be eligible for funding to promoted this game to players of all ages. The registration of P.A.O as a non profit corporation with the Ontario government gives us legal status to open necessary bank accounts and seek sponsorship. We will be the organizational structure for future tournaments and programs for all Pickleball players in Ontario.
If you are a resident of Ontario, the directors of P.A.O. ask you to go to https://sites.google.com/site/pickleballontarioorg/membership-applicatio... and sign up as a charter member today. Once you complete the application you can give your $2 to your ambassador or to a director, personally. Thanks in advance for your support.
